Story of Impact: Where Lived Experience Meets Lasting Change
Don Butler has been a Facilitator of our Parenting Inside Out (PIO) and Building Resilience curricula since 2014, bringing a perspective shaped by lived experience and personal transformation. “Addiction happened and completely changed the course of my life. I spent 6 months at Inverness Jail, and now I am going in there and facilitating classes. It’s rewarding.”
Not only does the PIO curriculum provide Don with tools to share with others, he also acknowledges how important the communication, emotion regulation, and problem-solving skills PIO teaches are to his life today. In Don’s journey, the long-term impact is clear: past struggles become present purpose, expanding resilience and supporting others in exiting systems involvement to be safe and thrive.
Transition Story: Five Years of the Resilience & Recovery Project
The Pathfinder Network launched the Resilience & Recovery Project peer support program in 2021 with the belief that peers should lead the way for justice system-involved individuals in recovery. We provide opportunities for participants to build individual, social, and community resources for long term resilience and recovery, successful completion of supervision, and reintegration into the community.
At our various Resilience & Recovery Project locations across three counties in Oregon, Peer Support Specialists with lived experience engage participants in a goal-oriented collaborative relationship and provide personalized support through holistic and responsive individual and group support services.
